Free Resources for All SVCC Students

Learning Commons Services

Sauk Learning Commons Library will be offering several ways to assist you virtually this year!  We have many online databases that can be found here, as well as, many eBooks, which can be found here, or in the SVCC library catalog or the EBSCO eBooks area.  Also, you may get assistance by using the "Ask a Librarian" form on our homepage. If you need help creating citations, please see our "Student Resources Area" and "Citation Tips and Tools".  And of course, you may always call us at 815-835-6247.

One more thing.... you can still check out a calculator, laptop, or items from Sauk or inter-library loan items and we will have them ready for you to pick up in your car from the West Mall.  Just give us two days and then call us at 815-835-6237 when you get to Sauk.  Here are the times delivery will be available:

  • Mondays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Learning Commons Tutoring (LCT) offers free tutoring in a variety of subjects, including math and science. You may find our tutor schedule here. To set up a session, or for more information, use one of the following: Ask a Tutor, or call 815.835.6293, or email lac@svcc.edu. Tutors are available to help you virtually, or if you need that in-person contact on campus, just let us know.

Fall semester hours are:

  • Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To access tutoring after hours, use NetTutor, an online tutoring service that can be accessed in any Canvas course on the left-hand side in course navigation.

The Learning Commons Writing Center supports all aspects of student writing from all academic departments as well as personal writing like scholarship essays, cover letters, and resumes. Writing tutoring and support is available for individuals and groups. Services are free and available to all students. There are no limits on how often a student may use the Writing Center. We are located off of the Learning Commons area in Rm 3M11. Writing Center tutors and staff are normally available for walk-ins or by appointment during the center open hours. For the fall 2020 semester, sessions will be conducted remotely and by appointment only. For more information or to make an appointment, call 815-835-6398 or writing.center@svcc.edu, or click here to visit the writing center webpage for latest updates.
